What were we thinking?

Well my best friend came to visit me from Colorado. I have not seen her in almost 4 years and I have not seen her 4 kiddos in 5 years. On Saturday we headed in to DC to see the sites. Yep, thats right me, my friend and our 7 kiddos!! Oh ya, and did I mention it was in the 90's and really high humidity! We taught them how to use the metro system and decided to head to the national zoo first. The metro station near the zoo had the longest, steepest escalator I have ever seen.


















The zoo was amazing. We did not get to see the pandas as the line was so long and there was alot of ground in the city we needed to cover. There were beautiful flowers all over. I got this picture of one with a butterfly on it.















After the zoo we caught the metro down to the federal triangle to go and see the White House. We went to the south lawn side and got the privilage to see the first dog. I don't know if it was Barney or Miss Beazley.

























While taking pictures there we were told to leave as someone had left a bag and they needed to evacuate the immediate area. So from there we headed down to the Washington Monument. It is an amazing site to see. We did not get to go up in the monument as it was closed that time of night.


















It was getting late and we were worried about staying in the city after dark, but then we looked over and saw the World War II memorial and it didn't look too far, so we decided to go see that. Well the more we walked to more we realized it was further than it looked. But it was so worth the walk. It was so amazing and beautiful!!






























While we were there and the sun was rapidly setting we look down and see the Lincoln Memorial across the reflecting pool and again think, wow that is not that far!! Okay another bad calculation on our part! We thought how fun it would be to walk along the path right next to the reflecting pool, you know right as the sun is going down and all the bugs are coming out. Lets just say it was a very quiet walk as we were all afraid to open our mouths. I have never been to DC at night so it was so amazing to see it all lit up. It was breathtaking!









































So after staying longer than we planned, feeling all the miles we walked while pushing a double stroller and keeping track of 7 kids we decided to head out. We finally found someone who new where the metro station was and followed them. We got back to our cars at 10:15 p.m. It was a long day and we were all in pain, but the historical sites we got to see were so worth the trip. I love seeing our Nations capital and all the amazing sites and beautiful architecture. I still have so much that I want to see. Luckily I still have 2 1/2 years to adventure out here on the east coast. I plan to see and do as much as possible. Now I need to go and soak my aching muscles!! Here is a couple more pics of the federal triangle. This building is just amazing to me.

Starting Point

Wow, who would have ever thought I would be doing this! I am not sure where this blog will lead me or the direction I would like to go with it yet. It will be nice to have a place to share my thoughts, my life, my accomplishments and my failures. I hope to share my interests and hobbies. I hope to meet and connect with those who share the same. Please bear with me as I learn this.
I live on the east coast as my husband is in the military. We hope to take advantage of all the opportunities the east coast has to offer for sightseeing while we are stationed here. My husband and I have been married for 14 1/2 years, we have 3 beautiful children and have lived in many different places. I love to do crafts, scrapbooking, stamping and I love to ebay!! I am also getting back into photography and will share pictures on my blog. I especially love to take pictures of the weather, mostly lightning.
